TelVue Connect/CloudCast Release Notes

3.0.0 – June 13, 2023

Enhancements

Native Streaming Viewer Analytics

  • Support for native CloudCast streaming viewer analytics & reports so you can more quickly and easily gain valuable insight into your content, viewers, and reach.
  • Access streaming analytics reports directly in the Connect CMS including Streaming Analytics Dashboard, Current Viewers, and US & World Geo reports. Dashboard includes total viewers, new viewers, total views, viewer trends, views by title, and views by app type. Geo reports include views by city and country. Reports filterable by date range, live and/or VOD, and app type.
  • The Current Viewers report shows up-to-date data within the last 30 minutes, while data for the Streaming Analytics Dashboard can take up to 24 hours to populate.
  • NOTE: Receiving statistics for the new integrated analytics requires being on the latest v3 CloudCast web player, and latest CloudCast Roku, iOS, and Android apps. As of the time of the release, most customers are still on the previous versions. TelVue will migrate all customers to the new players and apps by July 1, 2023 so data for the new integrated analytics will begin collecting by then. You do not need to do anything for the migration. If you have been using Google Universal Analytics to track viewer statistics, you can continue to do so through the end of June, 2023, at which time Universal Analytics will be sunset by Google and no longer supported.

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) Support

  • If you have a specific requirement to continue to collect and manage your own analytics data (for example, for your own highly customized reporting), CloudCast supports the new Google Analytics 4 (GA4) upon special request. GA4 integration will require you to set up and maintain your own GA4 properties. We generally don’t recommend bothering with GA4 integration as it likely will just create extra & redundant work for you. However, if GA4 integration is very important to your organization, please email support@telvue.com to let us know and request more information.

New v3 CloudCast Web Video Player

  • New v3 CloudCast web video player version with refreshed technology stack for robustness and ease of adding future features.
  • Supports native streaming viewer analytics for streaming analytics reports displayed directly in TelVue Connect.
  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4) support to send viewer analytics to customer’s own provided GA4 account.
  • Stream configuration option to display web channel program guide alongside the live stream in the player. Compatible with HyperCaster external program guide URLs.
  • Media attachments option for Agenda Documents (PDFs) to display fully alongside the video in the player, rather than just being available as a link.
  • NOTE: As of the time of the release, most customers are still on the v2 CloudCast player. All customers will be automatically migrated to the new v3 CloudCast player by July 1, 2023. New features in the v3 player will be available at that time.

    Fixed

    • Fixed an issue which could cause embedded 608 captions to be truncated.†

    • Fixed an issue which could cause the Recent Videos section to not be sorted properly by most recent videos first.†

      Enhancements

      • Series – Series can now be created without timeslots or channels.
      • Media Exchange – Email notifications of newly syndicated content.
      • Fixes
      • Distribution – Distributing licensed content that had not yet been transcoded to your org’s format, would cause the transfer to the Broadcast Server to fail a few times and eventually succeed.
      • General – A number of other fixes and improvements.

      1.3.6 – May 21, 2103

Compatible with TelVue Broadcast Server versions: 3.20.1+ Playlist features compatible with TelVue Broadcast Server versions: 3.22+

      Fixes

      • Syndication – Fixed an additional, fringe case whereby some licensed content would fail to “distribute” to broadcast server.
      • Usage – “Usage” page (only visible to Admins) was very slow for customers with a lot of media.

      Known Issues

      • Distribution – If you distribute licensed content and its Broadcast asset has not transcoded yet to your organization’s format, the transfer to the Broadcast Server will fail a few times until the Broadcast transcode is complete. During that time, you may likely see some failure messages on the “Tasks” page of your broadcast server.
        • Workaround: Be patient. The transfer will succeed once Connect’s Broadcast transcode is finished. Will be fixed in next release.
      • Windows Media Video – Connect’s Preview transcodes will fail on WMV’s with a 24-bit audio stream.
        • Workaround #1: Ensure video has a 16-bit audio stream before uploading. But it is probably not worth it to compromise the Bit Depth of the audio in your video, merely to make Preview transcodes succeed. The Broadcast transcodes succeed with a 24-bit audio stream.
        • Workaround #2: Use a non-WMV format.
        • Workaround #3: Use a different audio codec for the audio stream. WMV is a “container format” like any other video file. It supports more than one type of audio codec. We have discussed a number of possible fixes, but this one may take some time. It requires some large changes to our transcoding infrastructure.

That preset, when applied to videos, will create blank crew-member names on that video, causing validation to fail. Issue will be resolved in a future version. • User Management – When creating a user, the “Moderated” checkbox was not saving. Although, it was saving from the Edit page.

      Known Issues

DVD Uploads – When uploading several VOB files from a DVD, they will initially seem like they aren’t transcoding for a period of time, but they actually are. This time will vary based on the size of your VOBs. 1 GB of VOBs will take 10 minutes or more. They will also have a blank [?] thumbnail. They are being stitched in the background. Just be patient. You will see transcoding progress on the Activity page eventually, and their thumbnail will appear.

“My Media” tab is slow – We’re aware of the issue and are working on it for the next Connect update. We recommend avoiding that tab for now. To see only your files in the “All Media” tab, type the first few characters of your username into the Search box.

      • User Management – Clicking “Save” twice upon user save was displaying blank, generic error page. Added double-submit prevention.
