Encoder Settings

Encoder

Navigate to the Encoder page by selecting the Encoder menu option. The encoder page is where you configure the video and audio codec settings and optional adaptive rates for your TelVue TeleCast 2 encoder. The Encode Profile sets up the primary encoding parameters, that will also be the top/highest quality rate for adaptive streaming. The Adaptive sections are for setting up optional adaptive streaming.

Encoder – Encode Profile Section

TC2 Upload Slate

Choose the desired encoding settings. The Encoder Profile fields are as follows:

  • Name: Enter a name for the encoding profile.
  • Resolution: Choose the output video width and height (in pixels) that also defines the aspect ratio.
  • Frame Rate: Choose an output frame rate in frames per second (fps).
  • Scan Mode: Choose either Progressive or Interlaced. Progressive is recommended for streaming media.
  • Video Codec: The video codec is currently set to H.264/AVC. This is the codec supported by the TelVue TeleCast 2.
  • Video Bitrate: Choose the average video bitrate. Higher bitrates provide better quality at the expense of increased data rates requiring more network bandwidth.
  • Key Frame Interval: Choose the interval in seconds for which a key frame is inserted. Some streaming protocols such as HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) require the key frame interval to be a factor of the segment size. For TelVue CloudCast live streaming, 2 seconds is recommended.
  • Audio Codec: The audio codec is currently set to AAC.
  • Audio Bitrate: Choose the average audio bitrate. Higher bitrates provide better quality at the expense of increased data rates requiring more network bandwidth.
  • Audio Channels: Choose either stereo (2 channel) or mono (1 channel) audio.
  • Audio Sampling Rate: Choose the audio sampling rate in Hertz (Hz).
  • Upload Slate (Choose File): Upload an image to be used as a slate. Image format must be PNG or JPG. Image height must be between 100 and 1080 pixels. Image width must be between 100 and 1920 pixels. An aspect ratio of 16:9 is recommended.
  • Delete Slate?: Select to remove the slate.

Click Save to save your changes.

Encoder – Adaptive Sections

Optionally configure up to 2 additional rates for adaptive streaming. The resolution for each additional rate must be lower than the previous. Click the delete icon to delete an existing Adaptive rate. Click the add icon to add an existing Adaptive rate.

The Adaptive rate fields available when adding or editing are as follows:

  • Resolution: Choose the output video width and height (in pixels) that also defines the aspect ratio. This must be lower than the previous rate’s resolution, and typically should be the same aspect ratio as the other rates in the adaptive set.
  • Video Bitrate: Choose the average video bitrate. Higher bitrates provide better quality at the expense of increased data rates requiring more network bandwidth. Typically the the video bitrate will be lower than the previous rate’s video bitrate.
  • Audio Bitrate: Choose the average audio bitrate. Higher bitrates provide better quality at the expense of increased data rates requiring more network bandwidth.
  • Audio Channels: Choose either stereo (2 channel) or mono (1 channel) audio.

The rest of the encoding parameters for Adaptive rates will match from the Encode Profile. Click Save to save your changes.
