The Content File Actions menu can be accessed either by right-clicking on a thumbnail in the Content Management page, or by clicking on the gear icon in each video’s Show Content Page. Not all actions are available for all content. Some actions may be applied in bulk when multiple files are selected.
- Edit – Opens the Show Content Page where you can edit metadata, add to categories and playlists, and check scheduled events.
- Trim Content – Opens the Trim Content page that allows creating multiple trim points throughout the content and then re-rendering to either replace the current file or create a new content record.
- Play Now – To begin playing the file immediately, select a channel from the drop-down list and click on Play Now. If nothing is playing on the HyperCaster, this is one way to play a file immediately. To play this content on another channel on your system, choose it from the drop-down list.
- Download – Downloads the full quality file via the browser to your computer/device.
- Preview
- Create – to create the preview video of this piece of content only.
- Delete – to delete the preview video of this piece of content only.
- Generate Closed Captions – When synched to a TelVue Connect account with the SmartCaption captioning feature enabled, this action automatically generates closed captions for the file. Upon selecting this action, the Caption Generation Options menu is presented with default caption settings that can be updated. Click the Caption button to proceed. The Task Tab will show a task for the caption generation background job. When the task is complete, the captions are attached as a sidecar WebVTT file viewable in the show content Captions tab. Content previews will show the captions if you enable captions in the preview player’s control bar via the CC button. Captions will display during playback on CC1 if you enable the Embed Captions? option on a channel for supported models. Note that content with embedded 608 captions will always override any sidecar captions on playout. Publishing content with generated captions to Connect will also upload the captions, i.e. for CloudCast streaming.
- Translate Closed Captions – When synched to a TelVue Connect account with the SmartCaption captioning and SmartCaption Caption Translation features enabled, this action translates the existing primary closed captions to create secondary closed captions. Upon selecting this action, the Caption Translation Options menu is presented with the default translation language that can be updated. Click the Translate button to proceed. The Task Tab will show a task for the caption translation background job. When the task is complete, the translated secondary captions are attached as a sidecar WebVTT file viewable in the show content Captions tab. Content previews will show the captions if you enable captions in the preview player’s control bar via the CC button. Secondary Captions will display during playback on CC3 if you enable the Embed Captions? option on a channel for supported models. Note that content with embedded 608 captions will always override any sidecar captions on playout. Publishing content with Translated Secondary Captions to Connect will also upload the translated captions, , i.e. for CloudCast streaming.
- Schedule – Takes you to the Schedule Playout page to schedule one or more times to play the file. Read the Program Playout page for more details on how to Schedule a Playout.
- Transcode – Convert this file to another format for playback compatibility or other workflows using the default transcoding preset, or stock and custom presets available with the Pro Transcoding option. The Task Tab will show a task for the transcode background job. When the task is complete, the original file will be deleted and replaced with the transcoded file.
- Archive – Archive and transfer this video to one or more of your Archive destinations. The preview will remain in the HyperCaster.
- Restore – If already archived and deleted from the Broadcast server, you will see a Restore action for manual restoration of an archived/offline file.
- Categories – Any programming categories in which this file appears, as selected by the operator. To put this file in a category, check the appropriate box or boxes. To set up categories, use the Content Management section of the Config page.
- Upload – When synched to a TelVue Connect/CloudCast account, this action allows one-click upload. More information on this action, here.
- Cancel Delete/Purge – This action only shows up if you Purge or Delete a file that is still scheduled for playout. That file will only be purged or deleted after the last playout is finished. If before that time you change your mind, you can Cancel the Delete/Purge action to keep this file in the Content Library.

- Playlist – Add this content directly to a playlist
- Series – Add this content directly to a series
- Remove from…
- Playlist – Remove this content from a playlist
- Series – Remove this content from a series
- Purge – To remove the content from the Web Application’s list, but preserve it on the HyperCaster’s file system, click the Purge button. Content that is scheduled, is used as continuity, or is part of any playlist cannot be purged. Purging unattached content (TBD files) has the same effect as deleting it, so you can reuse a TBD filename after purging it.
- To purge files, select them and choose the Purge option. The application asks for confirmation. If you are sure you want to purge these titles, click Yes (OK). The application removes the selected files from the list and unlocks the file on the server file system so it can be edited, written, and deleted. Otherwise click No (Cancel), and the application leaves the content list unchanged.
- Delete from…
- Broadcast Server – Deleting files removes them from the broadcast server. If the content is not archived, the content record will be deleted as well. Otherwise the broadcast media will be deleted and the content record will remain. Use this option to remove outdated content from the server or free up storage from the server for archived items. Once a content record has been deleted, if you import a file with the same filename, the content will attach to the old record preserving the previous metadata. Content that is scheduled, is used as continuity, or is part of a playlist cannot be deleted.To delete files, select them and click the Delete button. The application asks for confirmation. If you are sure you want to delete these titles from the content list and server, click Yes (OK). The application removes the selected files. Otherwise click No (Cancel), and the application leaves the content list unchanged.
- Archive Server – Deleting files removes them from the selected archive server. If the content is no longer on the broadcast server or any other archive, the content record will be deleted as well. Otherwise the media will be deleted from the archive and the content record will remain.
Bulk Action
To take action on one or more content files, select multiple files using the standard Mac or Windows click/shift options. Right-click on the selected area to get the bulk action choices (same as Content File Actions, without Edit, Trim Content, Play Now, or Schedule).
